Writing is an important skill for many careers. The ability to write well is a skill that can be learned. This lesson will teach you six tips on how to improve your writing skills and help you master the art of good writing.
How To Improve Your Writing Skills
1) Ask Yourself Why You Want To Be A Good Writer
What is your goal for wanting to be good at writing? Do you want to create more posts for your blog to grow it? Do you want to learn how to be convincing with your promotions so your readers will buy whatever you are selling?
Be clear with your goals. Without it, you'll not find enough drive to keep the fire burning, lol.
Write with passion even if nobody ever reads your work YET, because as you learn SEO, and apply it to your writings later on, people will definitely stumble upon your content on Google.
2) Have Good Editing Skills
It's not enough that you write well. You have to edit your work, too!
It's not uncommon for a writer to produce several drafts before their text is finished. Editing skills are crucial because they help ensure the final product flows smoothly and readably.
How do you edit?
What we mean by "editing" in this case is really more about proofreading than anything else - making sure that grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc., all look correct.
Manually proofreading everything from scratch is one way to ensure that you’ve caught all errors. Otherwise, an automated editing tool can help with the tedious parts.
3) Practice Creativity
Creativity when it comes to writing is not just about having the talent, to begin with. Creativity can be the ability to express your ideas well, in your own style.
Be open-minded when reading feedback, and find new sources of inspiration.
Creative writers can take the mundane details in life or boring concepts from textbooks and turn them into something interesting that will capture a reader's attention.
Be someone who is willing to explore possibilities rather than stick with what they know. Creativity helps motivate one to keep moving forward even if it means taking risks.
If you have a Jarvis.ai account, you can use the "Creative Story " template to help you get started learning.
In your Dashboard, look for the "Creative Story Template."
Type your plot and learn how Jarvis, the AI writing assistant, writes a creative story! You can change the tone of voice to something that you want.
Here's my example plot:
"Jay started a blog and it has been abandoned for one year now. No content, no progress, nada."
In the tone of voice: I wrote "witty."
Here's Jarvis' "Creative Story" output based on my inputs.
"Jay was always a talented writer. Whenever he sat down to write, his fingers and brain would fuse into one magnificent machine of imagination and creativity.
His blog posts were always well-thought-out, the perfect mixture of informative details, and an emotional story arc that had readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
He loved blogging because it allowed him to combine his deep love for storytelling with his flair for prose.
But now Jay has lost all motivation to blog. He's been sitting at home for days just staring at the screen in front of him, without typing a single word onto it, or even looking through any drafts he had already made.
All this time he could have spent writing is time wasted, but Jay doesn't care."
HAHA. Just from a simple "plot," Jarvis gave me something super creative! Don't be scared to get creative. Learn from Jarvis!

4) Develop Self-Discipline
Learning to be good at writing is just part of the formula. You must also have self-discipline.
This can be hard when starting out, but it is important to have the discipline to write every day.
Set a schedule for yourself and stick with it. Create your own deadlines that are suited best for you (even if they're just personal), and find ways of making time in your life for writing projects.
Up for a challenge? Why not join our community? Write one blog post a day based on Jarvis' tips and tricks you learned for the day.
You'll be surprised how much you can do if you just commit to it!
5) Be Able To Work Under Pressure
Start by setting an alarm for 30 minutes. You write whatever comes out of you, without editing. Just write.
Once the alarm goes off, that's it.
The more you do it, the more you'll get better at writing.
Writers with strong time management skills typically succeed more than those who do not.
6) Realize Why Good Writing Skills Are So Important
Whether you are just starting out in learning how to write or are trying to grow your blog by producing more content, it is important to have good writing skills. Here are some of the reasons why:
- A blog with quality content will increase your chances of being found in search engines.
- Readers respond better to blogs that are well-written and easier for them to understand, which can build trust between you and your readers.
- Writing posts on a regular basis helps keep you accountable so it's less likely that you'll quit before achieving what you set out to do (earning money from blogging). Consistency also means more time spent improving your craft.

Hi Pitin! You write so well and inform deeply. Definitely enjoyed reading this. I did try writing some time ago tho, Didn’t go down well. I gave up, lacked confidence. I literally could sit in front of a blank paper/pad for two hours and come up with basically nothing! After reading this I can say there were things I didn’t do like. I wasn’t disciplined and creative at all. I have learned quite a lot tho, Thanks for sharing. I hope I find that passion to write again
Hi Vanabell,
I have a lesson about non-writers here. 🙂
And, if you find yourself always lost for words, check out this lesson.
