This post will teach you about becoming a Landi English teacher. You probably heard about teaching English online as a viable means to make money nowadays.

However, do not quickly take a leap without first knowing what awaits you.

Landi English Teacher

Landi English Teacher

There are several noteworthy points about this company.

One is its Great Brand award from China Central Television. Another is its Starlight Series curriculum (tailored for the young learners) that sprouted from its collaboration with Oxford University Press.

Comparing it to other platforms, Landi is similar to VIPKid, Magic Ears, SayABC, tutorJr of iTutorgroup, DadaABC and QKids wherein you will teach young Chinese learners.

This platform implements peer study of usually 2 students per class instead of one-on-one classes.

Landi English Requirements

If you find it interesting to receive a competitive salary,

  • follow a fixed class schedule
  • establish a strong relationship with students
  • use an interactive and fun platform and teach without worrying about preparing lessons,

then you should meet the basic requirements.

You also need to have a neutral accent in speaking English as if it were your native tongue.

You need to have a Bachelor’s Degree (minimum), and a TEFL, TESOL, CELTA or other teaching certifications. You have higher chances of approval if you have a teaching experience.

For the required equipment, you need a desktop or laptop computer and a smartphone. You must also have a headset and an HD webcam.

You should have access to the wired internet with a minimum of 2 mbps download speed and 2 mbps upload speed.

Thus, you can teach at Landi regardless of what country you are from as long as you have a reliable internet connection. Set up your work equipment inside a quiet and bright room.

Teaching at Landi

You need not worry about the teaching content, but you may prepare other things that will facilitate your teaching. You could set up an appropriate background, or use hand props to show your students during the lessons.

You must make other preparations, such as how you will deal with potential issues in class.

Landi has its own platform where you must conduct the lessons. This custom teaching platform contains the slides for each class. You may communicate with the Landi admin via the DingTalk chatroom.

As long as one student is present, you may proceed teaching the lesson.

Most students here are beginners, so expect that they might not understand even the Basic English words.

While this could pose a problem for you, remember that you should always attend scheduled classes with sufficient preparation, which could include learning about body gestures and TPR.

TPR or Total Physical Response is a method in vocabulary or language teaching. It involves the use of physical movement as a reaction to a verbal input.

TPR’s purpose is to create the brain link between action and speech so as to boost vocabulary and language learning.

How To Apply

Let us look at the application process at Landi.

Just like any job application, your first step is to submit your resume, which the company you are applying for will evaluate. If your resume passes the screening, you will be up for an interview.

Do well in the interview so you may eventually sign a contract.

Before you can finally start teaching, you must complete an online training and orientation. Make sure that you also complete your profile.

On the landing page of Landi English, you will see a short sign up form where you must enter your
  • email
  • password
  • verification code from the confirmation email from Landi and
  • verification code from the form itself.

Conclusion

PROS

  • Landi is open to anyone in the world who has appropriate qualifications and credentials.
  • Landi has various videos and resources that will help you make the most out of your experience, starting from the moment you apply until you are already starting teaching.
  • It reportedly offers a performance bonus ($2 if you make no mistakes).
  • The required internet speed is lower than those required by other companies.

CONS

  • There are not a lot of teaching slots available.
  • It reportedly does not pay or only pays a minimal amount for standby and idle times, such as when a teacher waits for students to show up in class.

I think Landi deserves inclusion in your list of websites to apply as an online English teacher. It has various good points to offer, but my only worry is that the contract for teachers is for at least one year.

This agreement could pose a problem in case you already want a quick way out. However, I still think this is a platform worth checking out.
