Easily Build A Website Using Siteground Web Hosting

Last Modified: November 16, 2020

Performance, speed and security are the attributes best liked about the Siteground web hosting. Siteground hosting plans are worth looking at for publishing your site, regardless if it is for personal or for commercial reasons.

To launch a profitable website, there are 3 things you need to have: a hosting service, a domain name and a website-building platform. When you avail any of the Siteground hosting plans, you can have all these three without a lot of worries, especially if you want a fast and a secure website.

Siteground is among the recommended hosting providers by WordPress.org.

Siteground Web Hosting

PROS:

  • Easy to use. Its back-end is intuitive, but you may still customize the hosting’s visual interface as you see fit.
  • You can create limitless sub-domains, although you may create only one website with the StartUp plan. There is free Siteground sub-domain great for test websites.
  • You can create unlimited email accounts and you could also connect your email to other email services, such as Gmail.
  • It offers significant security features like “let’s Encrypt for adding SSL encryption in any plan.
  • They use high speed SSD disks, plus a caching system for Dynamic content in GrowBig and GoGeek plans.
  • It has a fantastic Uptime rate. Some reviews noted that if the uptime is below 99.9%, Siteground will return part of your monthly payment.
  • You have several ways to contact its support team.
  • It makes daily backups and you can ask it to restore one of the past 30 backups if you need to.
  • It offers free site migration.

CONS:

  • No free domain for 1-year.
  • It’s pricing is higher than other hosting providers.
  • It does not offer many extra features like other providers.
  • Its data storage limit is fairly low. I think this is so they can maintain the fast speed for websites. Thus, thus is an issue for owners of websites loaded with images and videos. Just carefully choose the plan you will buy. The 10 GB of StartUp is okay for most non-CMS and non-Wordpress sites. The 20 GB of GrowBig is alright for websites in WordPress, Joomla and Drupal. The 40GB of GoGeek can accommodate e-commerce sites.
  • It will put your site on hold until the following month if you exceed the monthly allowance of its resources usage. Keep in mind that StartUp is great for websites with up to 10,000 visits per month only. GrowBig is best for websites with up to 25,000 visits per month. GoGeek is ideal for websites with up to 100,000 visits per month. You could also read reviews where it says that the overuse freeze may still happen even below the 100,000 limit of GoGeek. If a website attracts substantial traffic of about 3,000 visitors in a day, your website may still experience the overuse freeze. Thus, consider cloud hosting instead.

How To Make A Website Using A Siteground Web Hosting

Complete Your Registration

Provide your personal information and your payment details. On this page, you may also change your data center. Siteground has 6 data centers: Iowa, USA; Singapore, Asia; Sydney, Australia; London, UK;  Frankfurt, Germany; The Netherlands, Europe. You may also add extra services such as Domain Privacy and SG Site Scanner.

Set Up Domain With Your Site

When you log in to Siteground, click the button for “Set Up Site” in the dashboard and follow the steps with the Website Setup Wizard.

For your very first website, the system will suggest that you begin a website with the domain name you used in the registration. Yet, you may change this domain name if you like by clicking “Choose Domain” from the navigation menu.

You will have the options for using a temporary domain (automatically generated sub-domain of Siteground), registering a new domain and using a previously registered domain.

To register a new domain, the system will check its availability. For a previously registered domain, you must change the NS records of this domain to its new host server. To find the new server details, navigate to “Website” then “Manage” and click on “Server Details.”

Start Or Migrate A Website

Once setting up the domain name is over, the Wizard will direct you to the next step, which is "Starting a New Website" or "Migrating a Website."

When you select “Start New Website,” you must choose the application or the website building platform for your site. This is where you will install WordPress.

There is a simple click-and-install option (logo/button) you can click to prompt installation. For other applications, you can find the complete list of options by clicking “Other.”

Next, provide the login details you want to use for accessing the back-end section of your website. The back-end section is where you will manage and edit the contents of your site. Provide your email address and password. The system may also provide you with a strong password when you click “Generate.”

You have the option to create a site from scratch. This is a blank site with no application so you could fully customize it according to your preferred contents.

Migrating an existing WordPress site will need you to install a free WordPress migrator plugin.

Create Contents, Market Your Website, Make It Thrive.

From here on, you can access your back-end by logging in to www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin. In the WordPress dashboard, you can now start customizing everything - the look, add contents and all! Follow my free lessons to make your blog earn an income from affiliate marketing.

From the tables above, you see the initial price to pay when using any of the Siteground WordPress Hosting plans for the first time. The price seems cheap, but on the checkout page or the last page of registration where you will fill out the blanks with your personal and payment details, you'll see these initial prices are for specific durations only.

Note that these totals exclude the cost of domain registration, which the system will calculate depending on factors like the cost per domain extension.

The cheapest is StartUp plan, but do not immediately buy this because of its low price unless you have no plans to further level up your web presence. This plan will suit your needs to accommodate 10,000 visitors per month only. To renew a StartUp plan, the standard pricing shown in the table below will apply.

GrowBig is perfect for medium-sized websites. GoGeek is the most powerful hosting plan and is suitable for large websites.

The standard pricing will apply upon renewal of your initial chosen plan.

In Closing

Siteground might not be at par with other hosting providers in terms of price and additional features, but its plans are surely worth buying for guaranteed speed, performance and security. You just need to weigh your options and compare the features of each plan in order to pick one that will suit your needs best.

Here's a comparable table against Cloudways (my recommendation for people who do not have access to Wealthy Affiliate).

Upfront option to choose a server's location: No

Pay As You Go Option: No

Scale Up Anytime: Yes

Scale Up Anytime: No upfront information

Why chose Cloudways: The Pay As You Go Option is good since as you experience the platform, you can change your mind about the add-ons you purchase. When I created another server for tutorial purposes, it appeared in my billing realtime. But when I removed it the next day, it was removed from my billing, too.

If Digital Ocean server ended up not suitable for you anymore, you can change servers without leaving the Cloudways platform.

Billing is one calendar month after consumption. As you need more features, the option to scale up is there. It's an affordable choice for something that you do not need to share anyone with.

Siteground is famous for big websites with high traffic. Starting out, you do not need to invest too much.

As a newbie, I highly encourage you to get a “Managed” plan. Site Support is important as you can get stuck with technicals, and it can hinder your content creation process.

Managing your own server is ideal if you know the technicals already or are patient enough to get past any technical learning curve. With this, hosting in Wealthy Affiliate is a good starting point.
