The Secrets Of Using Facebook Groups For Affiliate Marketing

While it's definitely possible to grow your readership via Google alone, it pays not to put all your eggs in one basket.

Do you remember the lesson in keyword research where I asked you to go to targeted Facebook groups, look for questions (problems), convert it to proper keyword research and produce the solution (content)?

Well, it's now time to share your solution with whoever asked the question.

It's a win-win situation. You help them with their problem, and they reward you by becoming your new readers.

It is easy to see opportunities on Facebook groups. But it is also easy to not take them. Here are things you can do and should not do in Facebook groups when doing affiliate marketing.

Facebook Groups For Affiliate Marketing


1) Determine The Main Product You Aim To Promote

If you want to promote a Pinterest course to people who need them (i.e. newbies in Pinterest marketing), it pays to join Facebook groups with a lot of newbie bloggers.

Simply use the search bar on Facebook and evaluate the groups one by one.

It's tedious at first when you're trying to narrow down which groups to join, but the more you get into it, the easier and quicker it becomes to find a group, where the products you mention will be appreciated by people who actually need them most.

Look for groups where members share tips and techniques, ask questions, post their progress pics or videos, as well as chit-chatting back & forth like any other social media platform, would do.

This kind of group shows great potential because members are either just starting out, or have been going for some time and would be happy to share their experience.

The last thing you want is a group with only 200 members which has gone stale, as they all think the same way and refuse to budge from what they believe.


2) Do Not Join Groups With So Many Restrictions

Do not join groups where it is prohibited to post links or share content outside of that group unless specifically invited.

The only exception would be if you have been given explicit permission from someone who runs the group (i.e. admin) in advance.

Be active within those groups so as to identify people who may need solutions for problems.


3) Always Provide Value

Your posts should be helpful and provide value to the group. Share other people's content too, not just from your blog, but only if it is relevant.

If someone asks a question and you have an answer, help as much as you can.


4) Don't Post Affiliate Links

Facebook Groups can be a great tool for affiliate marketers, but it's important that you don't post your affiliate links.

Affiliate marketing works best when you provide value to others who are interested in what you're doing, and they take action by using whatever it is you are promoting.


5) Do Not Over-Promote Or Do Not Promote At All

Be a good affiliate marketer by following the rules and not spamming. Don't ask for likes, shares, or retweets, unless permitted.

There are Facebook groups that have specific rules like:

  1. Mondays are for sharing your progress.
  2. Tuesdays are for retweeting other people's content.
  3. Wednesdays are for dropping the link to your latest blog post.
  4. Etc.

Follow these rules to the dot, and you'll see the benefits.

Don't promote on a regular basis without first being invited to do so by the admins or group owners.


6) Respect Other People's Opinions

Don't argue about stuff that doesn't matter at all.

One thing that's always frustrating to see though is when somebody would share something heavy or sensitive (e.g., miscarriage) only to be met by a slew of inappropriate comments or unhelpful remarks.

It happens in Facebook groups and if the admins are not doing anything to moderate them, it's best to leave the group. But if the group is beneficial to you, just avoid participating with negative comments.

Just to share, I belong to several SEO Facebook groups and while some of them are quite harsh, I choose not to leave.

Why?

Because it's a good market research place where I see newbies' problems. I can easily come up with the next content idea based on their problems.


7) Use Your Real Name Whenever Possible

You wouldn't know who you will meet next. It's a small world after all, lol.

I was recently invited to a Facebook group with over 1.2 million active members and was surprised to see over 100 people that I personally know, lol.

1.2M members! Yes! Unfortunately, I do not have a blog I can "promote" with that niche so I am only there for fun.

Those who are promoting products are surely benefiting from the huge audience!

When you use your real name, people can check you out on your other social media profiles. They can become potential followers or subscribers without you asking for them to do it!

Including a photo of yourself can make it easier for people to connect with you. You don't want them feeling like they have to "friend" someone who is just an avatar, lol.

This also makes it more personal and friendly when writing as well. Yay for getting closer to the reader by not hiding behind the keyboard. 🙂

If using your real name isn't quite your thing, try including nicknames or even initials at least. This will help create some mystery.

Today, I had time to check Facebook and am so happy that one post I shared yesterday got 200+ page views in less than 24 hours. 🙂

Small numbers add up when done consistently over time!


Conclusion

It is easy to understand why marketing on Facebook groups works. People are already talking about different aspects of the topic you are promoting. This is a good thing because people are already there, waiting for your message.

You should not think that it is going to be easy, though. You may have to work hard and put in the time if you want your "marketing campaign" on Facebook groups to reach success.

But all this effort will pay off when people start buying from you because they are convinced by what they see or hear about the product.

Focus on groups where there are lots of newbies who are looking for people in similar situations, exchanging ideas & techniques: that's where your potential customers will come from!

I know it can seem daunting at times but I hope this lesson helps make things easier because Facebook groups really do rock when used properly for affiliate marketing purposes.
